Support on the Course

Casey, Shawn wanted to make sure you caught the FAQs about the support. I don't believe there is any water support on the course (Shawn's case the water is the support). Also, we are not able to give water to whoever is doing the leg, except swimmer. Just wanted to make sure Casey had a means to carry water, if you need it.

Also, Shawn I saw you can be handed food & drink from the boat, you just can't touch the boat. So, I spoke with my sister-in-law and the boys are planning on having a cooler, if you think you need something.

I'm getting excited. Look forward to seeing you all.

Roger that. I have toyed with having water with me for the run, but I just could never get used to the water belt. It is ok on shorter runs, but becomes a real albatros on the long ones. I am planning on doing without.

I went 3 miles this morning just to keep everything loose. Temp and humidity were brutal. I felt like hell at the end and my time totally sucked (just over 25 minutes). So, what I thought would be a nice short run to put me in a good frame of mind for Saturday completely backfired on me. Have no fear, by Saturday, my head will be in the right place and I will be good to go.

I am really looking forward to it as well. See you most of you tomorrow at the pre-race meeting.

Yeah it's too bad my dad couldn't have a water table for you at the top of the eddy for you and the others.
I'm guessing he expects people to go with camelbacks or something like that.
Actually I think we should all bring along any extra equipment that might help other team members.

Things to consider:
hat
Waist packs for water bottles
Polarized sunglasses for the Canoe
I'm going to wear gloves for both my run and canoe.
Towel
Change of clothes
2nd pair of shoes
Bandages for blisters or cuts

What am I missing from the list

It will be a long day, so you may want to consider bringing some food as well. Sandwiches, energy bars, etc. Sunscreen might be a good idea also.

I have a small first aid kit I am bringing. Plus a compass.

I assure you Craig is only bringing the compass because it may be overcast and he won't be able to use the sun as his guide.

I just assumed it would be a non-functioning instrument to throw off the other teams. We all know Craig is a squirrel-whisperer and will be guided by his fluffy-tailed friends throughout the entire course.

Craig, thanks for thinking of me. I told Matt I have a whole lake to drink if I need water. I predict that I will not need anything while I am swimming. When I come out, I will want some water/Gatorade, etc. and maybe a Clif bar, but it's only an hour, and I won't overheat with the liquid-cooled engine, so I think all will go smoothly.

Casey, on the other hand, will be running in 85 degree heat for over 90 minutes, and you orienteerers will be running through the woods (which are shaded at least, for the most part), for potentially over 2 hours, so you are the ones I'm concerned about.

I do want to talk to the safety canoers about a signaling system if possible, so I can stay on track, although it may not matter much. I have been working on the corkscrew stroke where you go from back to front to back as my sighting tool, so I don't have too much hindrance when I need to sight the goal. I just hope my muscles recover by Saturday morning. I beat them up on Wednesday, and they are a bit sore today.

Things I am bringing include:

A Compass for Matt, in case he wants to validate the squirrels.
A bandana for the canoe to cover my neck, like Lawrence of Arabia.
Lots of non-spoilable food.
Waterproof tape, good for blisters, one of which I have today from all the finswimming.
Cameras for action shots.
Wide-brimmed hat.
Sunscreen for sure.
Swimsuit.
Extra bikes.

And I'm sure there are more things to remember. Let's not forget anything important.
