I was kind of bummin that we didn't make the trip to WV this year to race with Craig at his hometown race. So I was looking to see when the race is scheduled for 2010 and came across this link of reviews.
I haven't looked at other races to see if it's typical that the reviews are always complaints but I was wondering if Craig had heard anything from friends that may have raced.

Got similar stories. Spoke to two people who did it. Hated how they started the swim. Go, jump off dock start swimming.
Joel who did it said he got beat to death because he knew he was slower but happened to be up front when they said go.
His two sons Shane and Luke were on boards as lifeguards to help people out. Shane told me it was tough with the sprint swimmers ahead of the rest of the pack. He thought they got some novices in the sprint race and they panicked, then he said it was hard getting to them. He had to cross other swimmers and disrupt some of the faster swimmers from the olympic and half races to help out those in trouble.
The bike, did not hear the complaint about the potholes, but did hear about the new hill they put in the course. Joel said you had to slow down on a turn right before it, then boom a little wall in front of you. He said if you realized it was coming you would have down shifted properly to handle it.
Everyone loved the run, hated the heat. A couple things to work out if they keep the sprint race.
So what you are saying Craig....is there's room for improvement. The water stories freaked me out...no wonder some people panicked. Sounds like the volunteers did a wonderful job!
I would say they did it better in the past. The additon of the Sprint version seems to have causedd problems they did expect, but I wasn't there so it is hear say at this point.
The swim for me wasn't that bad last year in the sense of getting kicked or pushed around.
