Timberman Prep

Just wanted to mention that you should have clothing to deal with temperatures ranging from the 50's to the 90's. Currently it looks like we will be getting wet as well.
I always try to have my running shoes covered in transition if it's raining. It's nice to have dry shoes, even if it's only for the first minute.

Okay. Why would they do this? The Clydesdales and the relays are last? I think that's where the slower competitors usually end up. Sure, some of the relay teams are super fast, loading their teams with specialists in each discipline, but more often there are people who aren't prepared to do the whole race in there.

I guess the good news is that I won't be getting passed for the entire race. In fact, after a little while into the bike, I probably won't be getting passed much at all until the run, when everyone who hasn't caught me yet might finally have a chance.

This is basically what happened in the Mooseman this year. It was much more encouraging because you seem to end up with people at the back of the pack, and you can actually compete with them, rather than hearing "On your left" 600 times.

Rain might help me a little more than some other people. I probably won't slow down on the bike, and it's definitely nicer in the run to keep me cool, but I am going to be slow no matter what is happening. If my shoes get soaked, that could get pretty painful by 13 miles. I might need liner socks.

I hope everyone is prepared to be waiting a long time at the end. Ugh. Get yourselves some ice cream.

Well my wave being so early is going to be a real test of my discipline. I'm going to be passed on the bike by a ton of really fast people. I've got to let them all go, otherwise I'll be walking the run.
It's also likely that I'll get to a point where I don't have many people I'm going to catch and pass. So my "been passed" to "I've passed" ratio is going to be high. That's not a big deal, other than missing that "feel good" of passing other people and using it to keep goin'.
As for the weather, Bring on the overcast and cool!

Wow, Shawn starting over an hour behind the PRO's. Added to the time already behind them, they potentially could finish the course twice before you get done once.

I know. They will be 10 miles into the bike before I even get in the water.

I guess I'll have to catch them!

Yeah, I'll catch them in the food tent after the race. Assuming they are getting several helpings of food, a couple of massages, some bike repair, and are exploring the retail tents. Then I'll catch them.
