Nice Work Craig

Glad to see your training is paying dividends. Cruising at just over 8mph or (12.87 kmph, ha). Very cool. I may follow your lead on this program.
If I'm able to do the triathlon next Sunday. I'm hoping to improve my run as well, looking for sub 28 minutes. I ran 29:18 in Morgantown and I walked a few times. I'm hoping that the cooler weather will help enough to allow this to happen. Of course this will be a slightly longer event so I may be kidding myself.

So what are the dates for your 5K races? Looking forward to seeing your results.

I have the Hero's run (5.5km, don't ask me why) this Saturday Sept. 22. So, when you hear the results of this one it will be slower, obviously because it is longer. I want to go 4:48/km (7:44/mile) pace. A 5k this would be 24 mins even, for 5.5 K it would be 26:24.

I then have the Waynesburg Homecoming 5K on Oct. 6. My current goal is 23:30, but it depends how the Hero run goes. My mom is actually thinking about walking in this one. It is fair to say she will probably win her division if she enters. She does some power walking.

I also see where Shawn did a nice 5k the other day, 32 mins. I also see where Matt is consistently getting close to 9 mins/mile on his runs.

What are the distances on the tri you will do next Sunday?

Well, I don't know if a 32 minute 5K is good, but it is good for me. I'm shooting for 30 minutes now. Last night I had only enough time to run for 10 minutes, so I ran one mile. Okay, a 10 minute mile is not going to win me any gold, but I was pretty happy, and curiously I was hardly sweaty at all. I really didn't feel like I was working all that hard, but I'm sure the next 2 miles would have gotten harder for me. You are still going to be beating me by over 6 minutes on the run alone! I don't think I can bike fast enough to get that far ahead.

Keep us informed about how the program works for you. We all might have to do something similar.

The tri Matt was talking about (which I was considering too, although it isn't looking good right now), is the Patriot's Triathlon in Bath PA. It can be found here:

http://www.piranha-sports.com/EventDetail.asp?ACTION=ShowEvent&EventID=234

If that doesn't work, go check out piranha-sports.com and find it.

It is a 650m swim, a 24k bike and a 5k run.

I liked this one because the run was short. Until I run a lot more, I would rather switch the swim and run distances of most triathlons. :-)

Genine isn't too interested in me going there by myself and doing this event. (She will be in DC.) I guess she figures I'll be kicked in the head during the swim, crash in a heap during the bike, break my leg during the run and she won't be there to get the picture of it. Ha!

We will see what happens. I'm not pre-registered so I suppose if it fills I might not be able to get in anyhow.
If it's not going to work out I'm going to try to join a group bike ride on Saturday and see if I can't get some momentum going in that department.
