KC Tango

Ok, so far I think there are 4 of us interested. Craig, Casey, Shawn and myself. I thought I would make a chart gathered from posts and talks I've had with people regarding their interests.

1/2 Marathon: Casey
Bike: Shawn, Matt, Casey
Swim: Craig and Shawn
Orienteering: Shawn, Casey
Run: Matt
Canoe: Shawn, Matt, Casey

I may be too cautious of a bike rider to make good time on the bike. Maybe we can find out what the trail is and I can try it out this summer.

Obviously the list is a work in progress

Let me know where I need to make adjustments to this list. I'll edit this post. If there are other people that think they can make it let us know.

I am not sure if Shawn can handle three events, unless his 90-day plan works to become a Spartan Warrior.

I would enjoy the bike riding, but I felt the swimming would be a greater challenge and preparing for a swim like that would definitely hone my skills.

It appears someone will have to suck it up and be the 1/2 Marathoner. Maybe we could recruit someone show enjoys this form of punishment.

Also, Casey needs to throw his hat in on his favorite event. I understand it might depend on his injury recovery.

Looks good so far.

I was just posting a list of what people were interested in. This certainly isn't the "sign up".
I don't know exactly where I fit into this whole thing yet and wanted to see what everyone was thinking.

The Spartans were pretty ripped. I wonder if any of them would really want to run 13 miles tho'.

I am more than willing to be our half-marathoner. I can promise to finish the leg, but I can't promise I'll be leading the pack.

I would also be up for the canoeing and orienteering. I would also be interested in the bike leg, but I probably wouldn't be able to do both the half-marathon and the bike. I believe the orienteering, canoeing and the last run require two people, but I'm not 100% sure. We will also need to have at least two people in the safety canoe for our swimmer.

Has Jason expressed any interest? Also, smart money says my brother is not going to be able to do this whole thing by himself. If that is the case, he will probably want to join up with us if we still have a spot.

They updated the web page. I looked at the application. 2 people are needed for Orienteering and the Canoe. 1 for everything else.
We have until July 6th to work it out after that we pay an extra $20.

What do we have for canoes? My dad has a very heavy aluminum one. Can't imagine it would be good for speed.

Casey your brother is welcome to join us. Although he may want to join up with Shawn as a 2 person relay, if Shawn does in fact become a Spartan.

My Dad has a fiberglass canoe, or my brother has it. There were two canoes at one point between them, both fiberglass. One was theortically faster than the other. My brother had used the one in a triathlon in Ridgway years ago because it was suppose to be faster. There was talk of backing over one with a pickup, but I can't recall which was which.

I think we are close to working it out. Four people right now. We got ? marks on Casey's brother and Jason, but you forget Jerry and Todd are sitting in Warren. No matter how hard we train Jerry is probably in better shape than all of us. He could handle a bike leg or canoe leg.

This is Team Mooseman, so we could also look to Scott F. or possibly Genine (the female element may give us some Co-ed category). I meant Genine as the female element, I don't know Scott well enough to comment. Just an idea.

Scott definitely thought the Bike would be fun but he's not sure if he is going to make this event.
I sent an email to Jerry if I don't hear back I'll call.

This 6 person relay this year is just a warm up for 2 man teams next year right? ;-)

Okay, I'm back from vacation. Ideally, I only wanted to do the swim and canoe. The fact that fins are involved, as I have said before, makes that event much more my speed, and I think I could recover by the time the canoe phase hits. My Spartan routine is a killer. I am going to do it! But as Matt said, I still won't want to run 13 miles. Of course the fitter I get, the less buoyant I become, so maybe I should stay fat. If I show up not looking like a Spartan, assume that was my rationale.

I might also add that just because I expressed interest in the swim and canoe, I am not suggesting that I will be especially good in either of those. Just less bad than I would be in the others.
